Preliminary Consolidated Production Outcomes For Third Quarter by Norilsk nickel group
World’s largest refined palladium and nickel producer named PJSC MMC Norilsk Nickel announces the preliminary consolidated production outcomes for the 3rd quarter and 9 months of 2017.
In 3Q17 the nickel production of our company increased by ten percentages as the Talnakh Concentrator attains its design parameters and the Norilsk Nickel Harjavalta nickel plant restarted its functions after yearly scheduled repair works in the 2Q17. The production of copper in the informed quarter decreased due to the short-term suspensions of smelting operations in our Polar division because of critical weather condition in Norilsk. It plans to process an accumulated concentrate in the 4Q17 that should entirely compensate for the reduction of copper production in 3Q17.
In 3Q17, the consolidated production of nickel amounted to about 54 kt increasing ten percentages quarter-on-quarter. Nickel results from the own Russian feed of the company reached about 53 kt, increase ten percentages quarter-on-quarter. In 9M17, the nickel output amounted to about 157 kt reducing 11 percentages year-on-year driven majorly by the drop of low-margin processing of 3rd parties feed due to the reconfiguration of the downstream production conveniences at Polar division. The nickel result from the own Russian feed of the Company reached 150 kt, increase 4% y-o-y, as the Talnakh Concentrator accomplished its design parameters.
In 3Q17, the consolidated production of copper amounted to 96 kt, decreasing four percentages q-o-q. Reduction of copper production result was directly attributed to the temporary suspensions at the Copper smelter because of the unfavorable meteorological situation in Norilsk for keeping the pollutant concentrations in a residential region within the limit. The Company also plans to practice the accumulated concentrate in 4Q17 that should balance for the down of copper volumes in a reported quarter. And In 9M17, the copper results amounted to about 291 kt, increase 10% y-o-y driven majorly by the concentrated processing purchased from the Rostec and the reduced metal losses in a revival of copper into the copper concentrate due to the modernization of Talnakh Concentrator.
In the 3Q17, the consolidated platinum and palladium output amounted to about 693 koz and 174 koz respectively. The Palladium output from the own Russian feed of Company reached 687 koz, decrease 9% q-o-q, as well as platinum result, reached 172 koz, decrease 6% q-o-q. This down was actually attributed to the increased base effort of 2Q17 while the Company processed costly metal concentrate accumulated in the 1Q17 and at the Krasnoyarsk Precious Metals Plant. In the 9M17, both the platinum and palladium result amounted to about 2,026 koz and 493 koz, respectively. This increase in the palladium result was attributed to some changes in the metal content in a mined ore.
